It’s time the USA instituted an instant background check for anyone applying for a driver’s license, renewal or license plates/renewals and also when purchasing a vehicle. Here are the stats -read ’em and weep. According to the FBI, in 2012, there were 8,855 total firearm-related homicides in the US…..while death from motor-vehicles were a staggering 33,561 according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration for the same year. Clearly cars are a friggin’ MENACE.
It’s also worth noting that the gun figure is probably a bit higher than it really was as I don’t think they are making exceptions for justifiable homicides (self-defense shootings)…they are lumping them all together.
So why would we want/demand instant background checks for gun purchases but not for motor-vehicles?
